The following is a walkthrough on how you can use the recursive directory tree Chrome extension to quickly access your Google Drive files straight from your web browser. First things first, you must install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.
After installing the Tree Explorer, you must log in with a Google Account. In the extension's popup window click the Sign in with Google button and enter your credentials. The authorisation flow will ask you to grant readonly file metadata permissions to the extension.
For the first time you must add a Google Drive folder URL in the options screen.
Click the Open Options button.
In a new browser tab open your Google Drive and navigate to a folder you want to monitor with Tree Explorer. Copy its URL (1) to the clipboard.
Click the "+" button (2) and insert the previously copied web address into the URL field (3).
Give it a custom folder name (4) it's up to you, you can use anything you want and then click the save button (5).
To view your content just click on the extension's icon in the taskbar. It might take a few seconds to get the data from your Drive folder.
For easier access consider pinning the extension to your taskbar.
When you're working with a reasonable amount of files it might be worth a try to turn on caching. With caching enabled your files will be available in an instant. The extension will preload the latest folder hierarchy in the background for you so you don't have to wait.
To turn on caching, open the options page, select the Enable caching (1) radio button, set a value using the slider and hit Save Cache Settings (2).
You can sign out from Tree Explorer for Google Drive from the options screen. Click on the options button while you're on the main popup window. Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find the sign out button.
